Drag Day at Inglenook

Every year around the beginning of June, Inglenook has it's 'Dress in Drag' contest. Organized by Glen White (Wendy), there is a poetry reading by Sky Gilbert, a cat walk by the contestants and awards to all. Thanks to Glen and all for a great day!

Non Trad art...Angel in Toronto

The Non trad class walked to Union Station, where they posted angel interventions to bring joy and hope to the deaden hallways of the railway corridors. It was a response to the 1.2 billion dollars for security for the G 20 conference in Toronto. Our Non trad class thought angels could do it better!

Doors Open

Doors Open is an annual event in Toronto. Old and interesting buildings and urban sites are opened to the public for viewing. Inglenook school participated in the 2010 Doors Open.
It was quite a success. Over 250 people wandered throught the school and outdoor site to view our Victorian school, see Thornton and Lucie Blackburn historic site and talk to our students and staff. Inglenook is housed in the oldest continual running school house. It was built in 1887, for the working poor in the old Corktown district of Toronto. Our site also is significant because of the history of the Blackburns. Our site has a provincial and national plaque for their part in creating an equality and equity in Canada, as well as, their work in the abolition movement and underground railway. Read about the school in the Torontoist blog.
